Kidney Damage due to Intense Muscle Building
These bodybuilders suffered kidney failure
Bodybuilders and weight lifters are among the top group of people doing intense muscle-building competitively. It takes years of hard work in the gym to build the muscles. Many resort to supplement to speed up their muscle building. They are typically in their early 20’s, reaching their career at the peak in their 30s. Some top bodybuilders experience kidney failure when they are most successful. Many will show no symptoms of kidney failure till later in their 50’s or later when their body starts aging.
The top 3 reasons why bodybuilders are susceptible to chronic kidney disease.
Long term usage of Steroid to boost muscle growth. Just do a quick google search “Top 10 Steroids for Body Building”, and you will find plenty of offers online, both legal and illegal. Though it is banned formally in most sports, some bodybuilders use it to boost their performance.
Steroids can induce or aggravate acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and glomerular toxicity. In short, the steroid can cause kidney failure such that one will require dialysis to survive.
Supplement seems to be less severe than steroids, long-term excessive usage of bodybuilding supplements may cause kidney failure. Do another quick google search, “Top 10 Supplement for Body Building” and you will find plenty of supplements online.
Among the top are Creatine and Protein Supplements Overloading the body with creatine and protein is unnatural and harmful. Read this Six-pack abs to kidney failure: Supplements end bodybuilder’s dreams
3. Kidney Stressed Out
The most devastating is that the kidney is overworked, overloaded, exhausted and it broke down. Every day, the kidney is detoxing the body, filtering out
1) Creatinine. Creatinine is a byproduct of a chemical compound called creatine, which helps muscles get the energy needed. As a waste product, creatinine is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys and removed from the body in urine. A creatinine test measures the amount of this chemical in either the blood or urine
2) Urea. Urea is a product of protein metabolism. It is a non-protein nitrogenous (NPN) waste product. Amino acids derived from the breakdown of protein are deaminated to produce ammonia. Ammonia is then converted to urea via liver enzymes. Therefore, the concentration of urea is dependent on protein intake, the body’s capacity to catabolize protein, and adequate excretion of urea by the kidney.
Doctor uses an indicator called glomerular filtration rate (GFR) which is derived based on age, sex, race and Creatinine count in the blood sample. To understand GFR, click here
Under normal usage, our kidneys will last a lifespan. When we stress the kidney with excessive creatinine and protein to be filtered over extended period of time, it simply cracked and failed to function properly, thus shortens the lifespan of the kidney.
Professional bodybuilder consumed a substantial amount of supplements daily, over several years. They were lucky if their kidney survive in their 50’s and they have to be very lucky if their kidney remained healthy in their 60’s.
Many of them would suffer from hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetics after they retire from bodybuilding. These were simply the delayed affliction caused by the excessive use of steroids and supplements. Their daily routine of supplement pills changed to medicinal pills. Without proper lifestyle change and assistance, they would eventually end up with chronic kidney disease stage 5, which requires dialysis.
In Kidney Power Up program, Vnex has helped many customers with chronic kidney disease stage 5 to improve their situation, increasing their kidney function or GFR naturally , to avert dialysis. It is easier to reverse the situation in the early stage of chronic kidney disease than in the late stage. If you are a bodybuilder, a weightlifter, or a professional athlete, and you have an early indication that your kidney function is dropping, register here. We can help you.
